There’s something so special about pairing the right playlist with the right activities. Music helps to turn every hike into poetry and waterfall viewpoints into mini music videos.
I crafted this playlist that is appropriately dubbed as “tree hugger” to be my soundtrack for those kinds of moments on the trails. It’s an earthy blend of folk, indie, vintage rock, and melancholy magic that matches the indescribable vibe of being out in nature.
🎶 So What’s the Vibe?
This playlist is simultaneously dreamy but also grounded– just like a soft sweatshirt in the back of your Subaru or that one pine needle that found its way into your journal. There’s Grateful Dead and Beach House. Hozier and Mt. Joy. Fruit Bats and Fleetwood Mac. All of these artists and their songs are very meaningful to me and their songs are equally as meaningful. With a fluid yet cohesive
🥾 Trail x Track Pairings
I had a fun idea to create a few pairings of songs that fit the vibe of some of the trails I’ve loved walking most that I have highlighted on this blog before! Click on the “Blog” tab to find more info about the trails below n more detail.
Tamanawas Falls Trail
📍 Mount Hood National Forest — Read more
Vibe: Fern and moss canyons, gentle climbs, and a waterfall that feels like a secret
Paired Tracks:
🎧 “Birds of a Feather” – Billie Eilish
🎧 “Fear and Friday’s” – Zach Bryan
🎧 “On & On & On” – Caamp
These tracks balance softness and strength in a similar way that the trail does. The Billie song is like the mist: tender and ever-present, while Caamp’s earthy energy keeps your feet grounded.

Eagle Creek to Punchbowl Falls
📍 Columbia River Gorge — Read more
Vibe: Shaded cliffs, creek crossings, and a trail that offers an insanely surreal landscape
Paired Tracks:
🎧 “Up Granville” – Peach Pit
🎧 “The Man in Me” – Bob Dylan
🎧 “Life Is Simple in the Moonlight” – The Strokes
This hike is like walking through a mixtape of light and shadow. These tracks echo that mood by being cool, reflective, and a little sentimental. Bonus points if you play Dylan while sitting on the rocks and looking out at the falls.
Rowena Plateau Wildflower Loop
📍 Columbia River Gorge — Read more
Vibe: Windy ridges, golden blooms, and open skies that make you feel like a speck
Paired Tracks:
🎧 “On the Sea” – Beach House
🎧 “These Days” – Dr. Dog
🎧 “Lookout Mtn. Love” – Chapman Whitted
This is one of those trails that has unforgettable views. These songs make space for awe and quiet reflection while matching the wildflower romanticism.
Silver Falls Canyon Trail (short loop)
📍 Silver Falls State Park
Vibe: Overcast, misty, a little eerie in the best way
Paired Tracks:
🎧 “Storms” – Fleetwood Mac
🎧 “I Need A Forest Fire” – James Blake, Bon Iver
🎧 “Rushin’ River Valley” – Fruit Bats
These are the songs you want when it’s quiet and dripping and you feel like the main character of something. Fleetwood Mac’s haunting vocals hit different next to a crashing waterfall.

Bonus Vibe Trail: Black Butte Summit
📍 Central Oregon
Vibe: Climbs that challenge, views that reward
Paired Tracks:
🎧 “Soak Up the Sun” – Sheryl Crow
🎧 “Young Blood” – The Naked and Famous
🎧 “Shake Me Down – Unpeeled” – Cage the Elephant
For when you need a little boost on the incline and something bold to match that summit serotonin.
🎧 Solo Hiking with Music? 10/10 Would Recommend
There’s a lot of talk in the hiking world about unplugging completely—and sure, I love the sound of wind in the trees as much as the next over-thinker or perfectionist—but sometimes a good song in your AirPods makes the trail feel yours in a different way.
When I’m solo hiking, music makes everything feel more personal. It quiets the anxious thoughts, stretches the silence in a comforting way, and makes me notice little things I’d otherwise walk right past. The rustle of leaves syncs up with a drum beat. The sun through the trees hits differently when paired with “Anything But” by Hozier. Be sure to add the playlist to your Downloads in case you find yourself in a spot with spotty cell service.
Pro tip: Keep one earbud out on less trafficked trails so you can stay aware and soak in some natural sound, too.
